Privacy Policy
Effective November 3, 2026
Daily Back keeps your back-care data on your phone unless you create an account, and we never sell it, show you ads, or track you across other apps. This policy explains what the Daily Back iPhone app and its website (dailyback.app) collect, why, and how you can delete it.
Daily Back is made by Coast Software Development ("we", "us"). It helps you build small daily habits for your back: check-ins about how your back feels, short guided workouts, walking goals, and charts of your progress.
In short:
- Without an account, everything stays on your device.
- With an account, your entries sync to our server so they're backed up and can power reminders and weekly emails.
- Apple Health data is only read with your permission and is never used for advertising or sold.
- You can delete your account and all of its data from inside the app at any time.
Using Daily Back without an account
An account is optional. If you don't sign in, everything you enter is stored only in a database on your iPhone, and nothing is sent to us. That includes check-ins, workouts, walks, sitting time, settings, and any Apple Health data the app reads.
This data stays on your device until you delete the app. It is included in your iPhone's own backups, which Apple handles under its own privacy policy.
Information we collect when you create an account
When you sign in, the app syncs your entries to our server so they're backed up and available if you reinstall or switch phones. We sign you in with a one-time code sent to your email; there are no passwords.
| What | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | Email address, the name you give us | Sign-in codes, your account, emails you've opted into |
| Check-ins | Pain level and location, triggers, what helped, posture and lifting ratings, notes you write | Your history, trends, and goals that adapt to how you feel |
| Workouts | When you finished, how long, which exercises, notes | Your workout history and streaks |
| Activity | Walks and sitting sessions (time, duration, distance), daily step counts | Walking goals, sitting reminders, and trends |
| Settings | Goals, reminder times, units, notification and email choices | Keeping the app set up the same way on every device |
| Device token | A push notification token for your phone | Sending the reminders you've turned on |
Our server also keeps standard technical logs, such as IP addresses and request times, to keep the service secure and working.
Apple Health data
If you allow it, Daily Back reads your sleep, body weight, and workouts from Apple Health. We use them to chart these next to your pain and to avoid counting time asleep as time spent sitting. Daily Back never writes anything to Apple Health.
- You choose. The app asks before reading anything, and you can turn access off anytime in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Daily Back.
- Where it goes. Without an account, Health data stays on your phone. With an account, the nightly sleep summary, weight readings, and workout details sync to our server along with your other entries.
- What we never do. We don't use Health data for advertising or marketing, sell it, share it with data brokers, or store it in iCloud. We only use it to provide Daily Back's features to you.
Motion, steps, and notifications
Motion & Fitness. With your permission, the app uses your iPhone's motion sensors to count daily steps and to notice when you start walking or have been still for a while. The raw sensor readings stay on your phone; only the results (a daily step total, or a walk or sitting session) are saved, and synced if you have an account.
Notifications. If you turn on reminders, we store a push token for your phone and the times you chose, so our server can send reminders through Apple's notification service. You can change or turn them off in the app or in iPhone Settings.
Location, contacts, photos, microphone. Daily Back doesn't access any of these.
How we use your information
We use your information only to run Daily Back for you:
- Show your history, streaks, and trends, and adapt your daily goals.
- Back up and sync your entries across reinstalls and devices.
- Send sign-in codes, and the reminders and weekly progress emails you've chosen. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Keep the service secure, fix problems, and prevent abuse.
We don't sell or rent your information, show ads, use analytics or advertising SDKs, or track you across other companies' apps and websites. We don't use your data to train AI models.
Services we share data with
We share data only with the companies that help us run Daily Back, and only what each needs. They may not use it for their own purposes.
| Service | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services | Hosts our server and database | Account data and synced entries |
| Postmark | Sends our emails | Your email address and the email's contents |
| Expo and Apple Push Notification service | Deliver push notifications and app updates | Your device's push token and the reminder text |
| YouTube | Plays exercise demo videos inside the app | When you play a video, YouTube receives the usual details a video request carries, like your IP address |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or others.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account data for as long as you have an account. Entries you delete in the app are removed from your history and stop syncing.
To delete your account: open Daily Back → Profile → Account → Delete account, and enter the confirmation code we email you. This permanently deletes your account and everything synced to it from our server, and clears the app's data on that phone. It can't be undone.
If you can't get into the app, email us from the address on your account and we'll delete it for you. Copies in our server backups are removed as those backups expire.
To stop using Daily Back without an account, just delete the app; your data goes with it.
Security
Data travels between the app and our server over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and sign-in uses one-time email codes instead of passwords. Your sign-in token is stored in the iPhone's secure keychain. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you if a breach affects it.
Your choices and rights
You can see and edit your entries in the app, turn off Apple Health, motion, and notification access at any time, unsubscribe from emails, and delete your account. You can also email us to request a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA); we'll honor those requests.
Children
Daily Back isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Not medical advice
Daily Back is a habit and tracking tool. It isn't medical advice and doesn't replace a doctor or physical therapist.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
